DPO aids victims effected by disaster effectively cope with symptoms of trauma and grief.
Disaster Psychiatry Outreach (DPO) is a non-profit, volunteer organization, founded in 1998, committed to alleviating victims’ suffering in the aftermath of disaster through the expertise and good will of psychiatrists and mental health professionals. To fulfill this mission, DPO responds to local, national and international disasters and catastrophes in order to provide specialized education and training in disaster mental health to a range of professionals in the healthcare, public health and emergency management sectors.
Our goal is to ensure that individuals, touched by disaster, promptly receive the critical mental health services they need to prevent the symptoms of trauma and help those victims effectively cope with one of the most traumatic times in their lives. We achieve that goal by ensuring our mental health volunteers receive superb training, advanced education and reliable resources in preparation of their field work.
